Competition Vests VS. USCG Approved Life Jackets

The only time you should use a competition vest is when you are in a controlled environment where you are being closely observed, like at an event with safety personnel. Competition vests should not be used for any recreational water sports such as tubing, recreational skiing, wakeboarding, barefooting, or riding a PWC.

US Coast Guard approved life jackets have come such a long way in comfort, fit, and flexibility that there’s really no reason not to use one for everyday use unless you’re in a competition or a sanctioned event.
