In May, the NMMA hosted over 250 attendees with the support of 35 co-hosts for the American Boating Congress event in Washington, D.C. The WSIA served as a Purser’s level sponsor and represented the towed water sports segment at this influential gathering.
WSIA Communications Director, Kevin Michael, met with several members of congress including Florida’s Daniel Webster to discuss issues impacting the boating industry including ethanol fuel, aquatic invasive species and USCG initiatives regarding model year and engine weight updates for the recreational boating industry. Jim Emmons, manager of the Water Sports Foundation also lobbied for the aforementioned USCG issues and attended several other key meetings as well as the boating political action committee (Boat PAC) VIP reception.
Two weeks after the event, NMMA president, Thom Dammrich, reported news of the House of Representatives passing Coast Guard authorization bill HR 1987, including the model year and engine weight updates as proposed by the USCG. Dammrich congratulated the attendees of the event for this legislative success.
