Parasailing – Senate Bill 392
April 2011 – Orlando, Florida
I spoke to FWC today and have the following to report:
When we started this journey back in January we were “babes in the woods” relative to this process. I would not be so bold to call us experts now, but we have learned a lot. Our ability to function as an advocate for the parasail industry and the relationships we have gained in Tallahassee are incredibly valuable.
For a bill to make it to the floor for vote, it must have a “sister” bill in the other house. In this case, Senator Dennis Jones sponsored a bill on parasailing. A sister bill was to move through the House of Representatives at the same time as the Senator’s. We have been told that the House side of this bill has failed to move forward. This, in and of itself, makes it impossible for the Senator’s bill to move.
It is not fair or appropriate to say the bill is dead. It just appears that it cannot move forward at this time.
No one knows what may be around the next corner for us and Parasailing. One thing is for sure. The WSIA is now in a much better position to engage. We originally found ourselves reacting to this bill. We know we are much better in a pro-active mode. We now have a chance to get on the front end of any legislative action that we think can benefit Parasailing.
